No Escurinho do Cinema

Showcase of Ibero-american Cinemas

4th to 16th December
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, EL SALVADOR, Equador, GUATEMALA, Mexico, Paraguai, Peru, Portugal, REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA, Spain, Uruguai, Venezuela

Curatored by Carlos Nogueira (Portugal) and Teresa Toledo (Cuba), the criteria for selecting the films in this season have been broad, though quality has been the fundamental factor. These fiction and nonfiction works are characterized by a multiplicity of views and aesthetic reflection. Varied in their aesthetics and narrative styles, these films highlight an exploration of cinematic language and a clear authorial stamp. The season features cinema that, in offering new imagery, has adopted various codes and ideas. And all these films are having their Portuguese primiere. This is a unique opportunity to get to know the creative richness of Ibero-American filmmakers through some of their most remarkable recent work.

Opening film: AQUÍ NO HA PASADO NADA by Alejandro Fernández Almendras (Chile) — recently picked by film critics as the best Chilean film of the 21st Century

Closing film: LA DEFENSA DEL DRAGÓN by Natalia Santa (Colombia) — premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival (Director’s Fortnight)

Some of the films selected:

ESPACIO SAGRADO by Felipe Esparza (Peru)
LA LUZ INCIDENTE by Ariel Rotter (Argentina)
EJERCICIOS DE MEMORIA by Paz Encina (Paraguay)
IXCANUL by Jayro Bustamante (Guatemala)
LA RECONQUISTA by Jonás Trueba (Spain)
