Imagination in movement

4th to 20th October
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Spain

The Museu da Marioneta (The Puppet Museum) has invited several companies to come to Lisbon and present the very latest work on objects, puppets and animated forms in contemporary Latin American puppetry. In artistically differentiated and plural programming, the magic of animation - which is the centre of this art form – is explored from different perspectives and using various artisitic resources in this series of performances, based on the different relationships between the body of the actor / puppeteer and the object to which they give life and soul.

PUPPET THEATRE, VARIOUS TECHNIQUES
A VINGANÇA DE RICARDO (RICARDO’S VENGEANCE)
COMPANHIA VIAJEINMÓVIL (CHILE)
WEDNESDAY 4th and THURSDAY 5th OCTOBER at 9.30pm
DURATION: 45 min
AGE 8+

Ricardo is a physically deformed young man, apparently shy and reserved and, because of this, the victim of physical and psychological mistreatment from other kids at school. Burning with rage and hatred, he comes up with a plan to get his revenge. Ricardo just needs an opportunity to put it into action, and this arrives when a group of 14 year old students, infected by a social fever spreading through the country, decide to take over the school for a night.

Borrowing the central structure of Shakespeare’s Richard III, Viajeinmóvil have created a family performance centred on bullying and its potentially dramatic consequences.

The performance has a mixed cast of puppets and actors playing a game of syncrony and dissociation. Using audiovisual support through four cameras capturing the movements, escapes and chases live that Ricardo submits his companions to. The soundtrack is live music for five voices. The piece as a whole looks to submerge the spectator in a modern tale of horror feeding on past stories and aims to give young people and adolescents a deep theatrical experience centered on the theme of abuse at school.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND PUPPETRY
O BRAILE, UMA DANÇA ÀS CEGAS (BRAILE, A BLIND DANCE)
CIA PEQUOD / DUDA PAIVA (BRAZIL)
FRIDAY 6th and SATURDAY 7th OCTOBER at 9pm
DURATION: 20 mins
AGE 10+ (RECOMMENDED)

Based on the themes proposed by the Italian writer Italo Calvino in, Six Memos for the Next Millennium, Miguel Vellinho has invited choreographers Bruno Cezario, Cristina Moura, Marcia Rubin, Paula Nestorov and Regina Miranda to create choreographies to be performed by puppets. The musical scores transcend the limits of human movement and performance, composed in tableaux, distinguished by the precise technique of the puppeteers, revealing many layers of this pas-de-deux between dance and animated theatre, inspired by literature.
Due to this, Duda Paiva seemed to be the perfect artist to collaborate with PeQuod and continue his search for poetic and fluid motion through a deeper connection between puppet and puppeteer. Based in Amsterdam for the last 20 years, Duda Paiva has been one of the pioneers of a new concept combining contemporary dance and classical puppetry, using movement and voice as narrative tools within the choreography.

In El Pescador, a fisherman goes out to sea, and we see his emotion as he performs the rituals of his preparations, which he goes through every morning before setting off.
After being shipwrecked, the fisherman is lost and alone. He therefore uses the fact he is actually a paper puppet to save himself.
